All right, kids, here's your homework assignment. Read Inside the Monkeysphere and compare and contrast to the events in London.

Sorry, not much for homework assignments where I don't get a grade. I have enough homework that matters that I need to get done, I don't need a frelling blog to assign me one. But after all the pleasure you guys have brought me, how can I refuse acknowledgement.

I did read the article, and they're right in many respects. I didn't give a flying fuck about Sept 11th, and cared about as much more about the events in London (sorry, cruel and cold, I know). I do care about the homeless guy on my way to work or on the bus next to me, or the crazy lady twitching and muttering at the bus depot, but I can't bring myself to reach out and talk to people I know, let alone people I don't. I believe in the basic good in people, but it's hard to see when crazies like that guy in Idaho are everywhere. I will always be the crazy mom who tells her kids be courteous and respectful to everyone, but don't trust them because they could be a psycho.

Once upon a time I had a monkeysphere, but I've moved on with my life. And it's not that I don't need people, they don't need me. I have nothing to offer but bitterness and visions of nihilism that humanity brings upon itself. It's not really that the people I don't know are one dimensional, it's more that everyone is one dimensional. I get sick and tired of journalists deluging me with crap they think I care about or they want me to care about. I can make my own decisions in that respect, just give me the damn facts. So all in all, pretty crappy compare and contrast, but I have assignments to finish before midnight tomorrow.

Cheers!

Interestingly
(then again maybe not )
Far more people are killed in tube train disasters than in any terrorist bombing in London ,be it IRA or other groups.
As a Londoner I can confirm that most of the stuff you are hearing is SFM
Or stupid fucking media trying to weave stories and sell newspapers.
and politicos trying to look sympa
London is huge and we welcome the diversion and a day off work if we can get it.

I cant get up a lot of sympathy for homeless crazies, most of them like it that way, respect their choice.

When I first read about the London bombing, I was like, "Oh, that sucks. Wait, two confirmed dead? WEAK." That was the extent of my reaction. Journalists are going to compare and contrast the reactions of Londoners vs. New Yorkers, but I think the magnitude of it kind of makes that irrelevant. I mean, this ain't no Madrid bombing and you know how much thought I put into that one? About five to ten minutes. I'm glad to see that most Londoners could really give a shit about all this, I wish that's how it had been after 9/11 in America. I mean, there are still a few annoying people doing incredibly lame things but nowhere to the same degree as America.

The most embarrassing thing has to be George Bush's reaction quote, which may be slightly better than mine, but I'm not a world leader:

"We will not yield to the terrorists, and will find them and bring them to justice."

vs. Ken Livingstone's:

"Finally, I wish to speak directly to those who came to London today to take life.

I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others — that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society and I can show you why you will fail.

In the days that follow, look at our airports, look at our sea ports and look at our railway stations and, even after your cowardly attack, you will see that people from the rest of Britain, people from around the world will arrive in London to become Londoners and to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential.

They choose to come to London, as so many have come before because they come to be free, they come to live the life they choose, they come to be able to be themselves. They flee you because you tell them how they should live. They don't want that and nothing you do, however many of us you kill, will stop that flight to our city where freedom is strong and where people can live in harmony with one another. Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail."

the opening part of that ken quote made me think of those bud light commercials

"Today we salute you london bombers. Your cowardly ways and dangerous motives make your jackt of dynamite a new style only paris hilton would be foolish enough to flaunt. So raise up your trigger finger, because this Bud's for you!"
