Things have really died down around here quite a bit over the past couple of months or so. So, I decided to do all of you a favor. To give you a piece of subject matter I'm hoping you'll decide to talk about. Here it is. Or maybe I should say, "here shit is." Maybe a lot of you have already seen this. But I found it interesting that this was the first thing that came up, when I googled the word, "shit." What I find most interesting, is how true what has been written, actually is.

sounds like some pissed off graphic designer who didn't realize art doesn't pay even when its electric

- einhander (march 20, 2006 at 3:23 pm)

Could very well be. But, was anything that was said, not true?

- mr. pc man (march 20, 2006 at 10:37 pm)

too many words.

Now I'm beginning to understand what their comment regarding monkeys actually meant. If the Internet was not full of so many people with the intellectual capacity of a monkey, then maybe the Internet would not be shit. Before you get to drive a car, you have to earn a drivers license, right? Maybe there should be an Internet user's license. That way, certain people, wouldn't even be on the Internet.

- mr. pc man (march 21, 2006 at 2:57 am)

nah
its for monkeys alright
engage brain ,write with a pen and read book.

- penelope (march 21, 2006 at 4:54 am)

It takes more than the brain of a monkey to understand what you have to say on here most of the time, that is for certain...

The internet is just like real life. Thats the problem. Its just a collection of corporations selling shit to you, crazy people yelling on street corners, preachers pushing crazy on you, and occasionally someone has an honestly good point, but he can't yell as loud as the other guys. The mistake people make is assuming that because you have to go out and seek what you are looking for electronically it is somehow better.

- einhander (march 21, 2006 at 5:09 pm)

It's good to see you have an opinion on the matter. I agree with you that the internet is just like real life, also. With one minor difference. In real life, we have laws. On the Internet, there are none. Well, there are some, but they're all regulated about as forcefully as a 2 year old baby hitting a pinata...

its of no use to people who dont use keyboards.
does being able to type move you up the intellectual tree?
or is it like PolPot sending all people who wear specs into the jungle to die?

capital offense of the day.

- penelope (march 22, 2006 at 12:24 am)

You don't need a keyboard to browse the Internet. In fact, given the resources of today, you can even tell your computer where to go(Online), what to do and what to type, for you, with your voice. Besides all this, people have been typing since the invention of the typewriter. If you're referring to PolPot whose reign of terror ran for about 4 years after I was born, then firstly I must mention, I have no idea, whatsoever, what the hell you are talking about.

I wonder which form of the English language is most easily understood anyway? Old English, or American English? Are you really asking me if I believe being able to type moves you up the intellectual tree? Well, if so, my answer would be, being able to type does not move you up the intellectual tree, if you are a monkey.

- mr. pc man (march 22, 2006 at 3:34 am)

I have a mo to spare,so this is my perception:

Most manual workers dont access the Internet
because they dont have typing skills

Typing skills get you a white collar job
So you are perceived(wrongly) to be more 'intellectual'

analogy :PolPot perceived spectacle wearers to be intellectuals and sent them to the killing fields to die.

I am not a monkey, have lost my specs again and spend a lot of time in fields ,sometimes killing.
I agree that the internet is shit, but not for nontypers.

Non webusers are probably nouveau noble savages.

- penelope (march 22, 2006 at 4:10 am)

Okay, I get ya... I think I feel your pain. People who know how to type, are often perceived as being more intellectual, indeed. I learned how to type in the 8th grade, during one semester, and have been typing ever since then. It's not hard to do, nor is it hard to learn how, whether or not you're a monkey. So, in that, I agree that people who perceive those who can type as being intellectual, are perceiving those people as being intellectual, for the wrong reason, if it's because they can type.

Now, let me see if I understand the rest of what you're saying. Firstly, allow me to point out that I flat out have no idea what you mean by this:

"I am not a monkey, have lost my specs again and spend a lot of time in fields ,sometimes killing."

Now, here's where we're going to disagree on something, I feel I do understand in what you've said.

"I agree that the internet is shit, but not for nontypers."

Here's where I disagree. If the Internet is shit, it's shit for everybody, nontypers included. Personally, I don't feel that whether or not someone is a blue collar or white collar worker has anything to do with whether or not they are or are not an intellectual. That would be like saying that hands on people are savages and hands off people are merely one step closer to intellectual domination or something. Assuming that most blue collar workers are the doers of the world, (The people who actually do the work) and most white collar workers manage it all, (Find the customers, manage the operations, inventory, scheduling, and everything that is business related) which group of people is more important. Well, you can't really have one without the other, right? Wrong. The blue collar workers are more important, because if it wasn't for them, nothing would ever get done because the white collar workers not only aren't interested in doing that kind of work, but for the most part also aren't interested in getting their hands dirty.

As for the last part:

"Non webusers are probably nouveau noble savages."

'Noveau' is a nice, quaint word to use to describe something that is 'new' but the word 'new' itself is a better word, simply because it's only spelled with 3 letters and more monkeys will be capable of understanding it. To sum up my thought process on this, I don't believe that non webusers are either 'new,' 'noble,' or 'savages,' if they don't use the internet, simply because they don't know how to type. Not necessarily because they've never bothered to learn how to type either, though that's definitely part of the reason.

noble savages,unsullied by the internet
nouveaux because Rousseaux had all the old ones, the last century but one /when they were unsullied by Whiteman.
Now I really must go and service the lawnmower.....................

If we're talking about the same Rousseau, then he was one of those guys that felt the church should be in control of the government. Where I agree with him, is in his philosophy regarding the importance of learning from experience as apposed to books. Where I disagree with him, is when people begin to actually believe there is nothing they can learn from books. Learning from the past experiences of others, helps us to avoid making the same mistakes. What I mean is, certainly you learn more from the experiences that you personally experience on your own. However, if someone's already gone through it, why not acknowledge what they did right and differentiate that from what they did wrong to avoid making the same errors. If it were up to Rouseau, we'd all be living in caves, from the sounds of it. Not only aren't all people born good, they also aren't born with a clean slate.

Not in my opinion. I guarantee, the further each and every one of us delves into our past, the more selfish each and every one of us will see ourselves. Selflessness is a learned trait. It's not something we are born with. When we're kids, all we care about, is what we want. Some people grow out of this stage and some don't. Clean slate, my ass. All you have to do, is look at the behavior of every single child you've ever met. I'm not disputing how cute they are, nor am I disputing whether or not some children are more selfish than others. Nor am I saying there's anything wrong with their behavior. All I'm saying is, it's just the way it is. The less that we have, the more that we want. The more that we have, the less that we want. That's what I believe. The Internet is Shit, because that's the way most people make it.

- mr. pc man (march 23, 2006 at 9:18 am)

so its shit because of original sin
back to Dogma!

- penelope (march 23, 2006 at 1:43 pm)

This could very well be somewhat true, but I'm not speaking from a religious sense. Don't get me wrong, as the Internet can actually be a pretty useful tool. In a way, it's only shit, for the same reason most movies, advertising and propaganda end up being shit. That is to say, it's shit, either because that's what people want, or that's what people who contribute to what the Internet has to say, think people want.

that website looked like a giant ad for Internet2.... which you do need special permissions to gain access too and is strictly controlled by educational bodies, major corporations, and the goverment...

the funny side of this, is that on internet2, it's just the same thing as the internet, only much much faster.Where 1 user may download an mp3, on net2, someone just downloaded the entire top100's from the past 2 years.

I guess I'll have to google "Internet2"

- mr. pc man (april 8, 2006 at 8:40 am)

i no longer work for an internet2 affiliated project. In fact, I work for a clothing company in their emerging technologies department now......
